About
RoyDL3, birthed Roy David Lester III 21:27 01.11.88 in Akron Ohio. Roy spent his childhood years moving from Ohio to Kentucky and back. It wasn’t until age 14 Roy’s parents relocated the family to Grant County Kentucky for good this time! He would stay in Grant County (ON THE SAME ROAD!!!) until 2015, when development and other economic reasons triggered one more move to Owen County Kentucky - where he still resides with his family.
During his teen years, being a skateboarder ment the constant search for wax for a curb or rail - and all our moms were tired of their candles disappearing! (Likewise we were all tired of our decks smelling like a Cinnamon/Apple candle shop in the Florence mall!) This necessity sparked an idea for Roy after talking with his dad about possible solutions regarding the frequent friction fight.
For the remainder of our childhood we used only one lubricant. It wasn’t until 2017 that it was formulated into wax and made easily usable. For a few years this “magic wax” was a well kept unintentional secret, until 2022 when retail sales of Siliwax began.
Siliwax and every product bearing its name are STILL handmade by the original inventor RoyDL3 in Kentucky! When asked about production out sourcing Roy said “I’m all for scaling up production, but I absolutely refuse to compromise on a few aspects.” He added “I would rather not offer a product at all, if I can’t offer one I stand behind! Ether way that means what it means. If it means micromanaging, or doing everything myself - so be it!”
So why the shop? Roy has always been heavily interested in commerce, trade, and investment. Roy has been selling since a young teenager, making extra money selling vhs tapes to school friends, to later selling on eBay and eventually opening a brick and mortar retail skate shop in Dry Ridge Kentucky in 2007 which later closed in mid 2009 due to sudden economic changes and a difficult recovery from a robbery that emptied his shop of 89% of all product (including Monster Energy drinks, and a Cash Register). But fortunately before the unfortunate end, Roy was awarded the 2008 GRANT COUNTY BUSINESS INNOVATION & CREATIVITY AWARD by the Grant County Chamber of Commerce for his efforts in organizing/hosting community events, and his unique and at the time unseen methods of operation.
